Brent is an accomplished Chief Technology Officer (CTO), entrepreneur and software architect who thrives in a fast-paced environment where innovation and creativity regarding the solving of business problems is of critical importance. He is a passionate, strategic problem solver who excels at creating flexible, scalable software platforms that integrate with both modern and legacy systems.

Brent has over 20 years of experience in the computer technology industry including software design and development, where he led his product development departments by example, both architecting and building software along with the team, setting a very high bar for code quality, efficiency, and customer user experience.

Brent’s most recent accomplishments were his contributions while serving as the CTO for Homestead Smart Health Plans where he architected and built a modern, multi-layer data access framework and data export system for multiple customer payment, claim, and eligibility integrations. In other roles, he has designed and developed various payment systems, healthcare claim auditing, pricing, and billing systems, and hired and managed high-quality, high-performing technology teams.

Brent earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Science from Cabrini College.

Angela O’Connell – Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer

Angie leads strategic business development planning and drives focused innovation efforts within the organization. She is a proven executive, dedicated to improving the client experience, building new capabilities and products, and utilizing technology to create superior outcomes. Prior to coming on board with THM, Angie spent 34 years in workers’ compensation, 17 of those with Anthem, managing a multitude of areas within Anthem Workers’ Compensation. Her experience includes design and development of innovative software platforms, national network development and network performance, oversight of all strategic executive client relationships, customer relations, call center operations, provider data verification and audits, regulatory and compliance matters, reporting integrity and advancements, and custom client and product design and implementations.

Lou DiGiovine – SVP, Chief Financial Officer

With more than 30 years of experience in financial services, general accounting, and reporting for large organizations, Lou excels in leadership roles and enjoys working with stakeholders and decision makers to solve real-world problems. Lou leverages technology solutions to navigate complex financial reporting requirements and improve efficiency.

Blending technical acumen and training with business savvy and operational leadership, Lou has been continually acknowledged for his team-building talents and influential leadership of large cross-functional initiatives in a matrix environment.

A true problem solver, Lou is eager to take on new challenges and responsibilities such as expanding his sphere of leadership and leading end-to-end projects while mentoring and developing those around him. This key value add has enabled him to bring structure to ambiguity and exceed stakeholder expectations at every opportunity.

Previously, Lou spent 19 years at Evolent Health, including 8 years as VP of Client Financial Services where he developed technology-driven solutions to support client financial management and accounting requirements.

Greg Mast – SVP, Data and Analytics

Greg is an accomplished data and analytics leader with over 30 years of experience in the group health and workers’ compensation industries. With a passion for pioneering new uses for existing data, developing cutting-edge tools and converting data into actionable insights, Greg has proven success strategically guiding and driving organizational performance and delivering valuable intelligence to clients.

Most recently, Greg led the informatics department at Coventry, where he played a key role in developing one of the largest fully integrated workers’ compensation data warehouses in the nation.  In addition to customized studies for clients, his team delivered end-to-end informatics for the full suite of company products, with an emphasis on providing easy-to-use, self-service tools. Greg earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati, has taken graduate work in research methodology and statistics from Xavier University and holds a certificate in workers’ compensation from the University of California.

Jamie Derstine – VP, Operations

Jamie leads the Operations Script Concierge department, which encompasses inbound and outbound patient communications. He champions improving quality service standards to achieve client management expectations and focuses on implementing new automated workflow systems.

Jamie is seasoned customer service operations leader with over 20 years of experience in leadership and development roles in various industries. He possesses solid skills in process improvement, strategic problem solving, cost containment, and organizational change.

He gained crucial experience in the Workers Compensation space with his prior position, as the VP of Operations for MedRisk. In that role, he successfully led his team of over 500 staff members through the pandemic, by means of transitioning operational business units from office environments to work-from-home models, while maintaining service levels and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Munawar Ali – Chairman of the Board

President of AmWins Specialty Casualty Solutions

As a member of our Board of Directors, Munawar Ali is the President of AmWins Specialty Casualty Solutions, LLC. Mr. Ali has deep domain expertise in workers’ compensation and the structuring of sophisticated insurance products for carriers, self-insureds, and the public sector. Prior to AmWins, Mr. Ali, was President of MNA Insurance Services from 2010-2011, from 2007-10, President of Accretive Insurance Company, and from 2003-2007, Executive Vice President of Brown and Brown.

Stuart Peterson – Director

Founder, President and Managing General Partner, ARTIS Ventures

Stuart Peterson is a venture capitalist and board member in the technology, techbio, and life sciences industries. Stuart has led the firm’s investments in technology and therapeutics giants at the earliest stages, from YouTube to Stemcentrx. As a board member, he has advised a wide range of companies, including current board roles at Locus BioSciences, IDbyDNA, TAE Life Sciences, Aether BioSystems, Excision BioTherapeutics, Versa Networks, Cohesity, Crediwatch and more. Stuart has been named to the Forbe’s Midas List: Top Tech Investors, New York Times and CB Insights Top 100 VCs, TechCrunch VC of the Year and more. He received a B.A. from the University of California Los Angeles and an M.B.A from the University of Chicago.

David Klein – Director

Former CEO of Lifetime Healthcare Companies

Mr. Klein brings to the Transparent Health Marketplace deep experience in health insurance and medical care delivery.  He is currently a director of venture capital and private equity funded health care companies.  He is chair of the New York State health information exchange.  He also serves as a member of the University of Rochester faculty and as a special advisor to their Medical Center CEO.  Most of his career has been with BlueCross BlueShield.  His assignments included serving as the CEO of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield providing coverage to nearly two million members as well as leading Excellus’s home care, medical group, long term care insurance and benefits consulting businesses.  He has been an industry leader serving as a director of America’s Health Insurance Plans and the national BlueCross BlueShield Association.

Kim Tzoumakas – Director

CEO, Center for Diagnostic Imaging

Kim is a seasoned healthcare executive and board member, with both public and private company expertise and over 20 years of leadership experience with a focus on strategy and culture. Kim is currently the CEO of Center for Diagnostic Imaging, a national leading radiology provider, leading the company’s growth strategy throughout the country. Prior to this role, she served as a board member and CEO with 21st Century Oncology, a multi-site international cancer care provider. Kim led 21st Century Oncology through a transformation resulting in a successful sale to GenesisCare in May, 2020. She has extensive board expertise, including currently serving as a board member with Coherus, a publicly traded biosimilar company and International Oncology Care, a Latin America based oncology care company.

Ian McBane – Director

Partner, Phase 2 Partners

Ian McBane covers financial institutions, insurance, and related technology companies at Phase 2 Partners, a San Francisco-based Financial Services Hedge Fund. Prior to Phase 2, Ian was a Portfolio Manager and Senior Analyst at Talkot Capital, investing in both public and private equity. Ian has a B.S. in Finance from the University of Oregon, and an M.S. in Economics from Portland State University.

Eric Hanson – Founder and Chairman Emeritus

As founder and chairman emeritus, Eric Hanson is the visionary behind THM’s revolutionary open platform for market-driven healthcare services in the workers’ compensation space. Previously CEO and chairman of U.S. Strategies, Mr. Hanson has over 28 years of experience guiding companies through the complexities of the U.S. Congress and a variety of government agencies. Under his leadership, Mr. Hanson was instrumental in the founding of the sub-acute care industry working closely with Integrated Health Services. As an investor and venture capitalist, he served on the advisory board of Acacia Venture Partners and was an early investor in Amerigroup, sold to Anthem, and Select Medical Corporation. Eric also commercialized the 340B pharmacy program by partnering with the National Association of Community Health Centers.
