Management Team
Ms. Hildenbrand is a strategic development leader with more than 30 years’ experience within the managed care, insurance and utility industries, with the majority of that time focused on workers’ compensation. Most recently, Ms. Hildenbrand served as the VP of Market Development for an industry-focused consultancy bringing new and unique products and services to the workers’ compensation industry.
Prior to that, she held leadership positions with specialty network and managed care organizations with expertise developing sales, marketing and communication strategies, stakeholder engagement programs, workflows, systems, and intellectual capital/culture. She holds a B.S. in Communication Management. Ms. Hildenbrand sits on the boards of several non-profits including Kids’ Chance of Pennsylvania, a scholarship program for children whose families have financial burdens stemming from work-related injuries sustained by their parents.
Michael Dean – SVP, Technology and Product Development
Michael leads the technology and product development functions for THM. With over 20 years of technology and health tech experience, Michael joins THM from C3i Solutions, a healthcare related services firm where he spearheaded strategic platform development, digital transformation and systems service delivery. At C3i Solutions, Michael oversaw the development and operation of healthcare technology platforms, patient applications and technology services. Michael and his team built a portfolio of industry leading solutions that have been recognized multiple times for innovation excellence in healthcare services while driving improved health outcomes and enhanced business results.
Regarded as a transformative business leader who synergizes business strategies with emerging technology solutions, Michael champions opportunities for organizational change management and process automation with vision and accountability. Michael earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Pennsylvania State University and earned his MBA from Temple University.
Carl Smith – SVP, Finance
Carl manages THM’s corporate finance operations, strategy development, capital planning, and governance. With over three decades of experience building and leading finance teams in emerging high-growth companies, Carl has established a reputation for being a valued strategic and tactical advisor who successfully aligns financial and business metrics to support company advancement.
Prior to joining THM, Carl held previous CFO roles, most recently with Halfpenny Technologies, Airclic, and MEDecision. During his tenure with his former companies, Carl was instrumental in developing skillful plans for market and product expansion and improving gross and operating margins.
Carl received a B.S. in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University and is a licensed CPA. He is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institute of CPA’s and is active in his alumni association.

Eric Newman – VP, Human Resources
Eric brings over 25 years of human resource’s experience to THM. Having built his career creating and developing a human resources function across industries, Eric is uniquely qualified to help THM meet its mission. As the first human resources professional in an IT management consulting firm, two financial services firms, and for the Philadelphia Eagles, Eric has structured and aligned the HR function to meet the strategic needs of each organization he has been a part of.
Eric earned his bachelor’s degree at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania; he went on the complete his master’s degree in Higher Education there as well. Eric additionally lectured for six years for the Wharton MBA program, teaching a course on Managing Human Resources in entrepreneurial organizations.

Munawar Ali – Chairman of the Board
President of AmWins Specialty Casualty Solutions
As a member of our Board of Directors, Munawar Ali is the President of AmWins Specialty Casualty Solutions, LLC. Mr. Ali has deep domain expertise in workers’ compensation and the structuring of sophisticated insurance products for carriers, self-insureds, and the public sector. Prior to AmWins, Mr. Ali, was President of MNA Insurance Services from 2010-2011, from 2007-10, President of Accretive Insurance Company, and from 2003-2007, Executive Vice President of Brown and Brown.
Kim Tzoumakas – Director
Former Director and CEO, 21st Century Oncology
Kim is a seasoned healthcare executive and board member, with both public and private company expertise and over 20 years of leadership experience. Most recently serving as a board member and CEO with 21st Century Oncology, she worked closely with the equity owners and bond holders to transform the company, leading to a successful sale. Prior to, she spent 18 years with Hall Render as a Managing Partner of the Michigan Office and as a board member, counseling national healthcare companies faced with financial and regulatory challenges. She has extensive experience advising boards on strategic partnering, growth and sale opportunities, and has served as a counselor and advisor to several non-profit and for-profit boards throughout her career.
Stuart Peterson – Director
Founder, President and Managing General Partner, ARTIS Ventures
Stuart Peterson is a venture capitalist and board member in the technology, techbio, and life sciences industries. Stuart has led the firm’s investments in technology and therapeutics giants at the earliest stages, from YouTube to Stemcentrx. As a board member, he has advised a wide range of companies, including current board roles at Locus BioSciences, IDbyDNA, TAE Life Sciences, Aether BioSystems, Excision BioTherapeutics, Versa Networks, Cohesity, Crediwatch and more. Stuart has been named to the Forbe’s Midas List: Top Tech Investors, New York Times and CB Insights Top 100 VCs, TechCrunch VC of the Year and more. He received a B.A. from the University of California Los Angeles and an M.B.A from the University of Chicago.
Eric Hanson – Founder and Chairman Emeritus
As founder and chairman emeritus, Eric Hanson is the visionary behind THM’s revolutionary open platform for market-driven healthcare services in the workers’ compensation space. Previously CEO and chairman of U.S. Strategies, Mr. Hanson has over 28 years of experience guiding companies through the complexities of the U.S. Congress and a variety of government agencies. Under his leadership, Mr. Hanson was instrumental in the founding of the sub-acute care industry working closely with Integrated Health Services. As an investor and venture capitalist, he served on the advisory board of Acacia Venture Partners and was an early investor in Amerigroup, sold to Anthem, and Select Medical Corporation. Eric also commercialized the 340B pharmacy program by partnering with the National Association of Community Health Centers.
Bob Mortensen – Director

Mr. Mortensen is a seasoned healthcare executive, who has been engaged in envisioning the future of workers’ compensation.
David Klein – Director
Former CEO of Lifetime Healthcare Companies
Mr. Klein brings to the Transparent Health Marketplace deep experience in health insurance and medical care delivery. He is currently a director of venture capital and private equity funded health care companies. He is chair of the New York State health information exchange. He also serves as a member of the University of Rochester faculty and as a special advisor to their Medical Center CEO. Most of his career has been with BlueCross BlueShield. His assignments included serving as the CEO of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield providing coverage to nearly two million members as well as leading Excellus’s home care, medical group, long term care insurance and benefits consulting businesses. He has been an industry leader serving as a director of America’s Health Insurance Plans and the national BlueCross BlueShield Association.
Jason Beans – Director
CEO and Founder of Rising Medical Solutions
As CEO and founder of Rising Medical Solutions, Jason Beans has built a proven framework to increase the cost effectiveness and quality of medical care. Prior to Rising, he was the national director of property and casualty operations at Concentra and previously held several management positions with its predecessor, CRA Managed Care. He was previously a founding principal of medical management consultancy BND Operations Company. He serves on several boards of directors in the insurance and managed care industries and is an inductee into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. Mr. Beans graduated from the MIT/EO Entrepreneurial Master’s Program and holds a degree in finance from Boston College.
Ian McBane – Director
Partner, Phase 2 Partners
Ian McBane covers financial institutions, insurance, and related technology companies at Phase 2 Partners, a San Francisco-based Financial Services Hedge Fund. Prior to Phase 2, Ian was a Portfolio Manager and Senior Analyst at Talkot Capital, investing in both public and private equity. Ian has a B.S. in Finance from the University of Oregon, and an M.S. in Economics from Portland State University.
